Between April 12th and 13th of 2024 I guided in partnership with the Saíra Azul Bird Lodge, atTeresópolis, the first local edition of 'Birding with Serpa'.
This activity counted with thirteen birders in total, who not only could enjoy the excellent meals and hospitality of the Lodge, but also record many species that are typical of the montane forest of the Serra dos Órgãos. It started at the night of April 12th, when Mottled Owl (Strix virgata) put on a show to the participants.
In the next day, the birding took place at the Lodge area and its immediate surroundings, when flocks of Saffron Toucanets (Pteroglossus bailloni) were spotted; the Surucua Trogon (Trogon surrucura); Hangnest Tody-Tyrant (Hemitriccus nidipendulus) which was a first record to the Lodge; and the White-collared Foliage-gleaner (Anabazenops fuscus) which was a lifer to some participants, are also worthy of mentioning from the many birds that were recorded. The next edition is already scheduled for September this year.
