Guiding Di & Irene at Tijuca National Park

On October 2nd I had the opportunity to guide two lovely birders from South Africa: Di and Irene were traveling through Brazil, more specifically in the Pantanal, and at the end of the trip they wanted to see some birds from the Atlantic Forest in Rio de Janeiro, so I took them to Tijuca National Park.

The hot, dry weather that has been plaguing much of the country was certainly taking its toll on the birds at a time when the forest should be filled with birdsong and intense breeding activity. In any case, Di and Irene managed to include many new lifers in their lists, such as the Scaled Antbird (Drymophila squamata), the Spot-breasted Antvireo (Dysithamnus stictothorax), the Gray-headed Tody-Flycatcher (Todirostrum poliocephalum) and the Swallow Tanager (Tersina viridis).

I thank Ricardo Barbosa from Pica Pau Tours for once again recommending my services and I hope to see my new friends on a next trip.
